Aegis Agriculture
Aegis Agriculture is a division of Aegis Environmental. Our Agriculture division provides animal feed ingredients made from black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens).
The company is situated in Centurion, Gauteng but we can provide services to other parts of the province and country.
We are driven to provide our clients with high-quality products that are safe, affordable and far more sustainable than current alternatives. We develop and use innovative products for the benefit of our clients, their community and the environment.
About Us
The Problem of Food Production
The global population is increasing rapidly, and we will need to more than double meat production to feed this growth (fao.org). Current animal feed ingredients from soya and fishmeal are unsustainable, resource intensive and in some cases lacking in proper nutrients.
Our Solution to Food Production
Our solution is to manufacture high quality, safe and nutritious products from insects using a process called bioconversion. The insects are fed treated food waste, turning it into our protein and oil, while the uneaten material and frass can be used as a soil conditioner.

Aegis Soldier Worms™ - Live
- Live Soldier Worms™ are a high calcium, high protein feeder insect, also known as black soldier fly larvae (Hermetia illucens). They can be used as a treat for reptiles, birds, fish, spiders, tenrecs and other insect loving animals. They are a nutritious and environmentally friendly alternative to mealworms, superworms , crickets and dubia roaches. Soldier Worms™ have 50x more calcium than other feeder insects, so there is no need to add calcium powder.
- Soldier Worms™ also make a great live bait for fishing. fish are drawn to the smell, sight and movement of the worms in water.
Aegis Soldier Worms™ - Pupae
- Soldier Worm Pupae™ are used mainly for those who are looking to feed the their pets the adult flies to their pets. The pupae eclose, or ‘hatch’, over a period of weeks, giving a gradual amount of feeder insects, rather than a whole lot all at once. The flies are very high in protein and are the perfect feeder insect for tarantulas, reptiles, fish, birds and other insect-loving animals.
- The pupae are also a great way to start breeding your own colony of Black Soldier Flies.
- Pupae can also be used for fishing as casters.

- We are committed to bringing you the best products for your pet and their needs. After a number of requests, we have developed a new product featuring mini worms. Our Aegis Live Mini-Soldier Worms™ have the same high-protein, calcium and energy content you’ve come to expect but at sizes ranging from 5mm to 20mm, are far easier for smaller animals, such as small birds and reptiles, to eat.
Aegis Soldier Frass™
- Our Soldier Frass™ is made from the material and frass left over after the larvae recycled organic waste. It is is an organic fertilizer and is high in bio-available nitrogen, minerals and nutrients. It can be used for crops, landscaping and even as an ingredient for vermicomposting. You can also make a frass tea by soaking the frass overnight in water and then using the water a foliar feed, that has biopesticidal properties.
